If you're migrating email from another provider or an old server, you can import mailbox contents using the IMAP protocol. ISPmanager offers two methods: via account and via mailbox.

What is IMAP

IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) allows an email client to access messages on the server. Unlike POP3, IMAP keeps emails on the server and syncs them across all devices.

  • The source server must support IMAP.
  • You need the login, password, and IMAP server address.
  • The mailbox on the new server must already be created.

Import via Account → IMAP

  1. Log in to ISPmanager.
  2. Go to Mail → Import mailboxes.
  3. Click Import via Account → IMAP.
  4. Enter:
    • IMAP server (e.g., imap.old-provider.com)
    • Port — usually 993 (SSL)
    • Username
    • Password
  5. Click Import.

The system will retrieve a list of mailboxes and let you select which ones to import.

Import via Mailbox → IMAP

  1. Log in to ISPmanager.
  2. Go to Mail → Import mailboxes.
  3. Click Import via Mailbox → IMAP.
  4. Enter the source IMAP connection details:
    • IMAP server (e.g., imap.old-provider.com)
    • Port — typically 993
    • Username and Password
  5. Select the target mailbox (must exist).
  6. Click Import.

Existing messages in the target mailbox will not be deleted — imported messages will be added.

Additional Notes

  • Ensure the source server allows IMAP connections.
  • Large mailboxes may take time to import.
  • Spam filters, forwarding rules, and signatures are not imported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I import from Outlook?
No. ISPmanager connects directly to the IMAP server, not to local email clients.

Will existing messages be deleted?
